Statement of intent
In this project I am going to compare and contrast different landscapes with different type of themes, such as urban, seascape. I am going to show different landscape at different time of the day and different time of the year. For my initial research am going to look at photographers that take photos of landscape. I have three artist that I quite like Rich Mccor, Graham Owen and Legan Rooster I choose these artists because they inspire me and also I can use their ideas. Rich Mccor was the first artist that I viewed his work is quite impressive but I have no interest in his work. Graham Owen his work interests me his work is comparable to my own work so I want to copy his intentions and use it for my own. Legan Rooster work is great but I dislike the rectangles and diamond shaped edits, but his foreground landscape is incredible. To show my progression I try to keep my work consistence and display it on this website. I would like to experiment with a wide of techniques within my work . My equipment are Cannon camera single lens reflex SLR which I will take most of my photographs on.
For my initial research I will start by looking into Landscape photographers. At the moment . I have three in mind I want to look at. These are Charlie Waite,Adam Burton and Graham Owen. I chose Graham Owen with his micro photography I can gain a lot of inspiration from for my own work. I chose to look at Adam Burton with his landscape photography His work really inspires my to do photography. I choose these two photographers because they display different ways of looking at the landscape . I am also aiming to look at the work of Charlie Waite who does Landscape with his beautiful pictures of trees and other images. I feel that landscape is an important landscape in today modern society as it can be found anywhere, and can be used for so many different purposes, and I would like to try and capture this within my work.
When I chose this theme my initial thought were taking pictures in the forest and near by the city. After thinking about the project title more thoroughly I realised there so many more routes for my work to go down such as going into the country side and taking pictures of the beach mountains around Angel sea.
To show my progression through my work I will be using duckling for my photoshop to show the difference from the original picture to the edited one. I will then develop these images further by taking more ideas from them and editing them.I already have lots of ideas running through my head for this project will propel me in the right direction. I would like to experiment with a wide range of techniques within my work. I am going to push my self with creativity and photoshop,

Landscape Photographer : Charlie waite
Charlie waite is a really good landscape photographer he has published really good work but there very expensive if you want to buy really good landscape pictures then go to charlie waite. Charlie was Born in 1949 in Britain. H e also worked Theater and Television for the first ten years of his professional life. The focus point in this picture is the trees or even the sun in the background also this is a long shoot and its very effective .
His style is unique in that his photographs convey a spiritual quality of serenity and calm. He has established a worldwide reputation for his particular approach to his work. His work has passion it says it all over his work and achievements even though he also uses photoshop to make his picture look surreal and fancy. The landscape presented in Waite’s photography are the result of a keen eye for lighting, color, and contrast. Both his patience when photographing and his careful composition show in the serene, calm portrayals of his subjects.

LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHER : Adam Burton
Composition
In this picture there are strong leading lines created by the waves in the water, this pulls your eyes to horizon. The photographer has used the rule of thirds where we have 2 thirds of the image as water and the other third is sky and a cliff. This makes the shoot quite dramatic because it makes you feel close to the water. It also makes you feel that you are on the rocks. It is a deep depth of flied because you can see clearly right to the horizon so I think he must have a very good lens to capture the amount of detail. Content This landscape image of the sea and what I really like about it is the amazing colour he has managed to capture. In my opinion I think he has waited for the sunset but may of manipulating the colours slightly in post production. The main structures that I can see is the sloping cliff on the right hand side which gives the picture form and the outcrops of rocks with the flowing water around it adds interest. Connection I am also going to capture flowing water and the sea side when I go to Anglesey and try to focus on rule of thirds and capturing colour. Comment I like this image because its very vibrant and positive it shows many light and dark colours. |
Graham Owen
Graham's photographs reflect his eye on the natural world and shows his emotions in this picture. This is a close up of a flower that is detailed with every drop of water on it. Graham demonstrates a unique style and meddling with realism impressions. This can be useful to me because I do well in close up shots , so I can take his idea and display it to my own work. The thing that I like is how its a the depth of flied is shallow. This can inspire me because I like to do close up and its my strong point. The lighting is focused on the flower and the camera focus is also on the flower. This doesn't use the ruler of third and gives it a loose feel . My eyes are drawn to the raindrop and how its focused on it
Anglesey
DAY 1- This was taken in winter time to create landscapes effects.
Best
This is the best image because the exposure was set correctly and so the image does not look bleached out
The focus was set to allow a shallow depth of field so that I could take a close up image with a slightly blurred background.

Worst
This image is over exposed which means that its lighter than normal and bleached out.
Also the focus was of because I was not using a tripod that caused a unsteady image this can cause a blurred image.

Linking paragraph
In this project am going to compare and contrast my own two different landscapes. Therefore I am going to London to take a variety of photos such as cityscapes , sculptures and architecture. Also I went to Anglesey in the winter and did a lot of activities using my camera such as going to the beach and capturing a collections of images.
I hope to make progress with my project by manipulating my images in photoshop, using my skills to improve my outcomes.

ARTIST RESEARCH
Rich Mcor
I like Rich Mcor's work because its deeply satisfying and also I like what he has done with his pictures, you can tell he has edited the photo well. He has also took the picture at the right time so its in sync with the background. I would like to link to my work because this could potentially increase my grade, I want to try to do what Rich is doing but this could take time but its all worth it at the end .
I have choose this picture because its like a illusion and also confusing how he took it like that. In this image it shows what the photographer took and how well Rich did, This could be crucial to my work because I link this to my work and increase my grade. The aperture is on point and also the depth of field is also point. McCor has developed a unique style of photography that is really cool but weird, he also uses something different a and a bit more creative using papercut outs . This building that he used the lego man is called Arc de Triomphe. Rich McCor creates art using his surroundings, only using a camera and paper cut-outs silhouettes. His work blows my mind how simple it is but looks so hard to accomplish and I want to try this and portrait his idea into my own work. Rich McCor ideas are to change structal images and turn it to his own work.
This photo intricately taken by Rich Mccor features angles and the accomplishment of what he has done. The strengths are that he has impeccable timing and also the depth of filed is deep because you can see the trees and the actual structure with out any blur . They are a few weaknesses, it would be better if the photographers hand is moved but it also shows that its not photoshopped. This photographer has inspired me to link this to my work because I can use his idea and display it to my work.
Legan Rooster
Legan's photography has the potential to bring us into a whole new, Photoshop and landscape images. Legan's mid-shoot is a fun way to get some really special and unique photographs. I like the way he has Photo shopped his pictures it makes the image stand out more and has more meaning. But I dislike how many diamond shaped and square in that picture. In my opinion this image is outstanding but only a few minor dislikes I could link this to my work but am not interested in this style of photography. This a mid shoot and also the background is a long shoot. The lighting is like a cool blue tone it doesn't show the lighting very well. they haven't used the rule of thirds. My eye is drawn to the middle because it is in all sorts of shapes and its very eye catching. She has achieved this by using photoshop and by taking a long shot of a cliff and photoshopping the two images together. The depth of field is a big depth of field cause you can see everything in the image. The lens that has been used is a canon SLR. There is a background this has made the image different because they use photo shop to edit and change the image. I like this image because its unique and different from other images and also editing the photo has changed it more.
linking paragraph
In order to develop my work further I need to focus on two different techniques and photographers. The first photographer am going to look at is Legan Rooster, their work inspires me because of their photoshop technique and subject matter. I am going to link my work to his by capturing the same images and then manipulating them in photoshop. The filters I am going to explore are transform, layers, duplicate and polygonal lasso tool.
I am also going to look at the work of Berenice Abbott who uses black and white images so I can go into further detail in Photoshop. I am interested in the work of the photographer Berenice Abbott because I have similar images that I can work with . I am inspired with her work photos and how she has composed her shots using extreme view points which stand out more because they are in black and white.I am going to develop my work inspired by Abbott by manipulating my own images in photoshop. The filters I am going to use are contrast and black and white in the layer filter.

On my AO4 I am going to have a college of work edits, landscape etc.... I also like the work of Jelle Martens so I am going to try to use his work and display it on my own. Also I am doing black and white images to extend my editing skills. I have a range of different type's of pictures such as Landscape, black and white and city scapes. I have recently been on a trip to improve my grade and have more picture for dispolse.

Evaluation
The project I am doing is landscape I personal enjoy this topic because there is exotic pictures to take and view. Its a unique project for a photographer because you can see many different shapes and outcomes of one photo.
I enjoy going to London because I went to various places such as the underground and the cathedral to take pictures of different of vase landscape it including long shoot , mid shoot and close ups. This made my portfolio stand out and look different from the other people . I enjoyed going to London because went to places I never went before and took pictures that I enjoyed taking, London was a great experience and great place to take pictures . London has urban landscapes and great advantage points to take pictures.
I have used photoshop to create different edits and use triangles to develop my further and used black and white filters to add the bizarre looking look. I have made many edits some of which I love some of which backfired but all together photoshop was a key to my project and without I wont be making good edits. Using triangles to make my work different is hard and sometimes it doesn't work, It can cause issues but I overcome them and it worked out for me.
The photographers I have used to research are Grahan Owen, Legan rooster, Rich Mcor. They are all great photographers but Legen rooster is probably the best one in my opinion.
