Supernatural ,Photoshop and creativity this is weird And wonderful!
In this image I can see a melting clock that is flowing over the edge of a sharp cube. From the clock I can see shapes flowing out of the surface which gives the painting movement as if it is floating. I can also see a moth next to the clock which is a lot smaller and makes the clock look big. The painting by Dali is like a dream, I think he has tried to portray what a dream might look like which makes it surreal and weird. He is trying to show your sub conscious thoughts which makes you feel slightly odd when you look at the painting because you recognise the objects but they don't make sense. There are only a few colours but the colours are unique to the painting which makes the painting look amazing and spectacular. The main colours are bright blue and white sky which contrasts with the brown and gold of the clock and cube. The technique that Dali uses is to paint in very fine detail that makes the painting almost look like it has been created in photoshop. I like like this picture because it kind of links in with my topic of weird and wonderful and I might use it to inspire my own work. I am thinking of using unusual objects and photoshoping them to create surreal images. |
Salvador Dali
Rene Magritte artist
In this picture that I am looking at,the the background is a line of trees and sky which is modeled inside a newspaper. This painting is surreal image because the newspaper makes it look like a dream. The composition of the painting shows the fold of thew newspaper is directly in the middle, the man's hat is in the top third of the painting . Which draws your eye in. Contrast of the black hat + suit against the night. Realistically painted but an unreal scene which makes it surreal. The newspaper with the trees shows that the person is hiding his face and shows the background. Also the sky looks the same inside the newspaper and outside, It shows there is no faults and its all flawless.
In my opinion I like this image because I can use this for my own work and I really like how he painted this because the background is amazing and the way he painted the hands is fab I enjoy this and this could link with my work.

FIRST SHOT
Having looked at the work of the artist Magritte I really liked his paintings that showed day and night at the same time. I am going to use this to inspire my own outcomes by trying to capture to same idea. I am going to the local park to take some images of a street lamp which I will then manipulate in photoshop.
Equipment: Cannon camera and tripod
Location: Longford Park

I am proud of this edit because the filter and the light adjustment are perfect, I used the saturation filter in photoshop and adjusted the levels to create a more surreal image that showed a contrast between light and dark. I think this image that I have taken links to the work of the artist Magritte.
Erik Johansson
This is a mid shot photo which shows the foreground of the water, the bottle in the middle and a background sky. The image is very dream like and weird because inside the bottle there is a tiny world. It is like something from a fairy tail and makes you wonder where the bottle is going to end up.
The image is at eye level which makes the viewer look inside the bottle at the small world and focuses your attention on all of the detail.
Erik Johansson has used Photoshop extensively to create a fantasy like photo . In my opinion I think he took an image of a bottle using a studio shot and photographed the water separately and combined the two in photoshop. Also I think he used different filters and effects to make it weird and wonderful.
I really like the background because it brightens up the picture and creates a contrast between the bright line in the sky to the dark water. The light streak lights up the inside of the bottle and he has added a lens flair on the edge of the bottle to draw your eye to it.
I really like this photo because I like the way he has composed the image to have a contrast between the light of the sky and the dark of the water which creates a dramatic image. I like the way the photo tell a bit of a story and if I can I would like to use this in my work.

Why I like this photographer is because this is about my theme (Super Natural). I enjoy looking at his images there great and Wonderful. Erik Johansson is a full-time photographer from Sweden, now based in Berlin, Germany. Erik doesn't capture moments, he captures ideas. With the help of his camera and Photoshop the goal is to make it look as realistic as possible. He gets inspired by things around him in his daily life and all kinds of things he sees. Although one photo can consist hundreds of layers, he always wants it to look like it could have been captured.
Anja Stieler
Anja Stiegler is a creative Photographer and Image Artist from Wolfsburg, Germany. Most of her images are a mixture of surrealism and takes us into a fascinating world of daydream, where the impossible becomes possible. Anja loves to awake feelings of freedom and happiness by using a wonderful combination of art and colours.
I like this picture because everything fits in like the background the image it self the model it all fits in especially the women face has is on the floor and shes looking for it this is a long shoot of the whole body. The lighting is on the body and some of the back ground is darkened.
They have achieved a really good image because they have used a few different soft colours with a contrast of black which make it stand out.
The focus point in this image is on the blank face and the photographer has used the rule of thirds to draw your attention to the women's face . It is a mid shoot which has been taken in a studio with quite harsh light. I think there seems to be a spotlit on her to make the photo more effective.
In my opinion I think this is a weird and wonderful picture because of the subject matter which almost like a dream and reminds me of Dali and Magritte. The background is very plain which gives it a dream like quality and I think the photographer has used Photoshop to blank out the face features which is very unnerving. I really like this picture because I think it is quite unique and I might use to inspire my own work.
Second shot
I am inspired by the work of photographer Christopher McKenny. I am going to try creating a shot based on a shrouded figure.

This was taken outside in the snowy mountain , the mirror shows a amazing reflection of the thin clouds. The mirror was in the right place and in the right time to take this picture.
I really like this picture because it goes with my work and this might impact on my work. This photographer and i have the same idea so if i look at her work it can help me with my own work and try to follow her foot steps in photography |

Third shoot
For the next part of my project I want to explore the theme of weird and wonderful by using mirrors. I like the idea of capturing a reflection that should not be there and makes you think. This links to the ideas I looked at in the work of Dali.
Equipment: Cannon camera. mirror, second person to hold mirror
Location: Outside shots
My plan was to use the mirror to my advantage and get some good pictures, such as using depth of field and different angles to get the best picture I can.

My next plan for my shoot
I like the idea of using the mirrors but now I need to explore this idea a bit further. I am going to try more than one mirror to see what I can capture and try different locations.
Fourth shoot
I tried to use multiple mirrors but I found it hard to capture an image that was clear to see. So my next shoot I am going to go back to using one mirror but take more care with the location.
Equipment: Cannon camera, one mirror second person to hold the mirror.
Location: outside garden.

Evalution
In this year project weird and wonderful we have been able to pick our own werid and wonderful about what we find interesting to us, so I have desired to pick surrealism and mirrors as my project topic because I knew it would be something I am interested in doing to get my grades that I want for my GCSES
My photographers that I have researched was Salvador Dali
Rene Magritte
Erik Johansson
Anja Stider
Daniel Kukla
From doing my research I have realised that out of all of them I took inspiration off Daniel because I found out he was the photographer that had the most interesting work to me so I decided to do my own as you can see for my website.
The hardest bit about this project must be photoshop because I find it really hard to manage but luckily I was able to produce all of my work in a interesting way and that what I wanted to do, so from this project I have been able to slow learn different effects on photoshop so that it make my photos more better to the people looking at my photos. in my opinion this was a really good subject to do because I liked taking loads of photos to produce more shoots.
